Kenwood House F; R; EH
Kenwood House, situated high on a hill of Hampstead Heath, is a fine neoclassical building modelled by Robert Adam in the late eighteenth century for Lord Mansfield. It has an elegantly grand library and houses the art collection of the Mansfield family.
The House was purchased by Edward Cecil Guinness in the 1920’s. Guinness was the Earl of Iveagh as well brewing a decent pint; his bequest to the nation, of Kenwood House, is known as the Iveagh Bequest. The paintings he donated include works by Constable, Vermeer and Turner; also here is the famous self-portrait by Rembrandt.

Kew Bridge Steam Museum H; R; Ind.
Kew Bridge Steam Museum is housed in the a pumping station that was built in the 19th century to supply water to London. It was a model for subsequent stations across Britain. Today it houses a large number of ‘Cornish’ and ‘rotative’ engines some of which can be seen in action on Open Days and at the weekends.
The museum also details the history of the supply of water to London from Roman times to the present day. For those who are into the mechanical or technical workings of engineering steam engines and communal water supply the archives here are probably a dream.
The museum also has London’s only working steam train, the footplate or drivers cab visitors can travel on selected days where special charges apply. For detail see website.

Kingston Museum F; S; LC
The local history museum of the borough of Kingston contains the collection and equipment of the photography pioneer Eadweard Muybridge (1830 -1904), who famously proved by means of his photographic methods that a horse in gallop lifts all four of its hooves from the ground – a hitherto unproven and much debated issue.
Muybridge was born in Kingston and returned there after making his reputation and fortune in America; he bequeathed this important collection to the Kingston Museum, which was built in 1904.
