Review:The Candy Bar is the West Ends Premiere bar for lesbians in London. Opened in 1996, Candy Bar is one of the few nightlife destinations designed for gay females. The crowd tends to be mixed in terms of age but is more popular amongst lesbians in their late 20′s and 30′s. Their resident DJ’s play a whole host of music genres including funky house, mainstream andd RnB music.
The bar has an impressive three floors and the decor is simple yet attractive. The toilet facilities have been poor for a while but have improved slightly in recent times. There is outside seating as well if you’re finding it too hot or crowded inside. Overall reports on the place are mixed but Candy Bar is considered to be the best of a bad bunch of Lesbian nightspots.
Men are welcome there as well as long as they accompanied by a female. Drink prices are a little extortionate for a bar with a bottle of beer costing around £3.50 and spirits being a lot more expensive. The bar serves cheaper drinks before 8 pm with a double spirit costing about £4. The entry fee is £5 on Friday and £6 on Saturday night which is quite expensive considering it’s a bar and not a club.
Opening hours are between 5 pm and 2 am. Tottenham Court Road tube station is a few minutes walk from Candy Bar and is served by the Northern and Central lines.
Edge Bar
11 Soho Square , Westminster W1D 3QF

Review: The Edge bar is a lively venue which caters largely for the gay community but is also popular amongst many heterosexuals as well. the bar has a very friendly atmosphere and the place is gay friendly without being exclusively gay. Edge is full of flamboyant and interesting characters as well as the prototype clubber.
The staff are renowned for being friendly and efficient. The decor is very stylish and colourful and the club is large with a total of four floors. Edge DJ’S play a lot of the typical club classics and the pop sounds of gay icons such as Kylie Minogue and Britney Spears can often be heard in Edge.
During the day the venue is a relaxing cafe with a decent but somewhat overpriced food menu. Drinks are reasonably priced for a west end nightclub with most pints of beer costing around £4 and spirit with mixers costing about a fiver. The club has a range of ‘Special’ Cocktails which come highly recommended by most customers.
The opening hours are between 12 noon and 1 – contact the club for information on admission prices. The Edge is a few minutes walk from Tottenham Court Road Tube station which is served by the Central and Northern lines
.
The Purple Turtle
Crowndale Road, London NW1 9TN
Tel no:0207-383-4976

Review: The Purple Turtle is a live rock music venue and bar situated in the heart of London’s alternative music scene in Camden. The Turtle plays host to new indie, grungy and rock bands trying to make a name for themselves in the capital. There is also a selection of DJ’s who play a wide range of alternative rock music from punk to gothic. There is a dark and grubby feel about the place which for most lovers of the alternative music scene is an added attraction.
The staff can be a little rude at times, but in general there are no major problems with the service. Some customers feel that the clientele can be a little too in your face and there are too many overbearing characters in the Turtle. Saturday nights are normally the most busy and the spacious dance floor makes you feel as if you have room to manoeuvre unlike a lot of popular London nightspots.
The bar also runs special cabaret nights which features burlesque shows. The Purple Turtle is ideal for those individual types who are looking to rebel against the norm of a plastic mainstream night club. A pint of beer should cost you know more than about £3.30 which is a typical price for a venue like this. Spirits and mixers cost around an affordable £4. There are no admission prices for the bar. The Turtle shuts at 3 am on Friday and Saturday nights and 1 am during the week.
The nearest tube station, Mornington Crescent Tube station on the northern line is just seconds walk away and Euston station is a few minutes walk from the bar and is served by the Northern and Victoria lines.
Storm Night Club
28 Leicester Square, London WC2H 7LE
Tel no: 0207-839-2633

Review: Storm is a nightclub in the middle of London’s west end open 7 days a week. The club caters for a more urban audience playing Hip Hop,Rnb and Garage music. Storm is not as big as other clubs in the same area – it only has one room but the dance floor is very big.
Some clubbers come here as a last resort but the majority of them end up having a fun night. Unlike many clubs in the West End Storm has an unpretentious feel about it, most of their clientele are fun loving and down to earth people. A few complain that it can get a little cramped in there and perhaps if there was more room inside it would make life easier.
The drinks are reasonably priced for the West End with a bottle of beer costing you around £3.50 but the cocktails are as expensive as everywhere else in Leicester Square. Entry into Storm will set you back around £10 and on the weekends they are open between 10 pm and 5 am and during the week it is 10pm till 3 am.
Storm is just a few hundred feet from Leicester Square tube station which is served by the Northern and Piccadilly lines.
