Egg Nightclub

Egg Nightclub, 200 York Way London N7 9AP

http://www.egglondon.net/

Review: The Egg Club is a stylish venue situated in Kings Cross, North London. The club itself is a long walk from Kings Cross station so the owners have generously provided a shuttle bus which takes clubbers from the American Carwash outside Kings Cross station to Egg. The club itself is incredibly spacious with three large floors and what separates Egg from other London hotspots is a large, picturesque garden which has its own bar. The bottom floor plays minimal house music, the second floor plays heavy hitting house tunes and on the third floor we hear the sounds of more commercial house and live performances from random bands.

Drink prices are typically expensive with the highlight being generally under 3 pounds for a bottle of water , but not extortionate for a club in the central London area. Egg has garnered a reputation for being one of London’s most unique and enjoyable nights out, ideal for the hardcore clubber type as well as anyone searching for a different yet trendy experience.

The club does not cater for listeners of commercial pop and rock music as it predominantly plays variations of house and techno grooves. The rough look of the area surrounding the venue is the polar opposite to the modern and exotic look inside the club and it’s easy to see why Egg won the 2003 MEDA award for best London club. Concessions are £12 and £15 on the door, opening hours are between 10pm-6 am on Saturday and Sunday nights

Koko

1A Camden High Street, Camden, London NW1 7JE
Tel no: 0870 432 5527

www.koko.co.uk.com

Review: The Koko Club is located at the quieter end of Camden Town in North West London near Mornington Crescent tube station. Koko was originally known as the Camden Palace and was a popular theatre venue at first and due to it’s theatrical history the club has a very vibrant and sophisticated feel about it. koko is labelled as an ‘Indie’ club and is renowned for their live music nights with some famous faces appearing to play a live set , but some customers have been left unimpressed by some of the more unpleasant sounds of unsigned bands.

Friday nights are NME night with some live music to begin the evening, followed by a selection of cool Indie songs played by the resident DJ. Saturday nights differ every week, one Saturday offers commercial Pop music another is rave and funk inspired as well as a disco night once every month, so check the website if you want to know what themed night is on that weekend.

Most of the reports on this club are favourable, but some complain of the overcrowding which is a problem for the majority of popular venues within Inner London. Others find the place a little pretentious and despite being fans of alternative rock music complain that much of the music they heard at the club was unrecognisable.

If you’re a fan of beer/lager then their best deal is £3.70 for a can of Red Stripe or Becks in a plastic pint glass, which is not too expensive for a popular venue, but is still a little extortionate in my opinion. Single spirit mixers such as Vodka and coke start at £3.70 as well which is actually quite reasonable as many similar nightclubs would likely charge you around £5.00.

If you are looking for a trendy clubbing experience in London’s popular Camden Town and would love to be in the heart of the ‘Indie’ scene then you are likely to have a great night at Koko’s as it is held within high regard amongst trendy London clubbers. Entry price is £12 with club flyer and £15 without. Doors open at 11 pm, shutting at 4 am.

Travel: Mornington Crescent Tube station on the Northern Line is literally just across the road from Koko.

Roxy Nightclub

3-5 Rathbone Place W1T 1HJ
Tel no: 0207-255-1098

http://www.theroxy.co.uk/

Review: The Roxy Club is situated just seconds walk from Tottenham Court Road tube station in the heart of London’s west end. The club is a popular hot spot for many of London’s trendy clubbers. The Roxy’s Dj’s predominately play Indie music, but are also known to play some classic Rock and Roll, Soul and electro music. the reports of this club are generally positive as the venue has a good vibe about it and is a small yet intimate venue.

They run some good deals on drinks with offers such as buy one beer get one free and good prices on spirits and mixers with a double vodka and coke costing just £2.70. Drink prices may vary though depending on when you visit the club because like most venues, prices are cheaper throughout the week. Standard entry price is around £5.00 and the club is open on Friday between 5.30 pm and 3.30 am and Saturday 9.30 pm and 3.30 am.

Tottenham Court Road tube station is just 200 yds from the Roxy and is served by the Northern and Central lines.

Tiger Tiger

28-29 Haymarket House London SWY 4SP
Tel no: 0207-930-1885

http://www.tigertiger.co.uk/

Review: The Tiger Tiger Club is part of a chain of nightclubs across the country which has a reputation for a lively night out for young people. The London version of the club is located in Haymarket in the West End just 3 minutes walk from Piccadilly Circus station. The club can become overcrowded which is typical of a venue in that location and some complaining of becoming too hot due to the mass of people inside there. The club has three large floors and the decor is very stylish.

Tiger Tiger plays mostly mainstream pop and Rnb songs and caters mainly for younger clubbers between the ages of 18 and 21. It has a bit of a reputation for rude bar staff and management with some customers complaining about a lack of quality and friendly service. The drinks are priced highly even by West End standards with most cocktails at around £6.50 but the range of cocktails and mixed spirit shooters is impressive.

They have an extensive food menu which is reasonable in price and offers a good quality and range of dishes and food is served till about 10 pm. If you’re a student with less money than it may be a good idea to go during the week when entry prices and drinks are cheaper. Standard entry fee is a round £10-£12 and the club is open from 11 am till 3 am.

Tiger Tiger is just a few minutes walk from Piccadilly Circus tube station which is served by the Piccadilly and Bakerloo lines.

Zoo Bar & Club

Zoo bar Leicester square 13-17 Bear Street, London WC2H 7AJ
Tel no: 0207-839-4188

http;//www.Zoobar.co.uk

Review: The Zoo Bar and Club is situated in the heart of london’s west end, just seconds walk from Charing cross and Leicester square tube stations. the club has a very continental feel to it largely due to the number of foreign clientele and so if you’re looking for the British clubbing experience then this is unlikely to be the ideal setting. Zoo bar generally has a lively and positive atmosphere, but at times the overcrowding in there can get a little claustrophobic. Zoo plays predominantly mainstream pop/RNB music and so is unlikely to cater to more eclectic tastes.

Drinks are cheaper during the week with special offers including half price drinks in the clubs ‘Happy Hour’ between 4 and 8 pm. If you are a fan of beer or lager , the cheapest lager they offer is bottles of becks at around £3. Drinks are typically expensive of a West End night club on the whole as you would expect from a nightclub in the West End of London, but they do provide an extensive range of alcohol including numerous cocktails which is likely to appease female customers. Concerns have been raised by female customers in particular over the overly flirtatious behaviour of the bouncers and so perhaps ladies should keep their wits about them.

An affordably priced food menu is also on offer throughout much of the day which ranges from light snacks such as Nachos to meals such as Pizza and pasta dishes. The bar/club is open from 12.30 pm to 3.00 am during the week and 12.30 to 3.30 am on Friday and Saturday nights. Students are given priority between Monday and Thursday as those are Student nights and standard entry price is £10.00.

Nearest Tube stations are a short walk Leicester Square served by the Piccadilly & the Northern Lines and Charing Cross served by the Northern and Bakerloo Lines.
