London Gatwick Airport Location:
Gatwick Airport is located north of Crawley in West Sussex and is approximately 29 miles or 46km from Central London, on the A23 off the M23. It has two Airport terminals, the North Terminal and the South Terminal, that are linked by a free shuttle service.
Getting To & From London Gatwick Airport By Public Transport
Rail Services To & From London Gatwick Airport
Getting To & From Gatwick by Train By Train -: Gatwick rail station is adjacent to Gatwick’s South Terminal. There is a free shuttle service to the North terminal from the South terminal. The following rail services operate from Gatwick Station
The ‘Gatwick Express’ which departs every 15 minutes to London Victoria* with a journey time of 30 to 35 minutes.
First Capital Connect operate northbound suburban services to London Victoria* via East Croydon and Clapham Junction. These services generally take 10-15 minutes longer than the Gatwick Express but are around 20- 25% cheaper. They can be very overcrowded and tricky if you have large cases.
First Capital Connect also operate frequent services to Bedford via East Croydon, London Bridge, St Pancras International (for Eurostar international services) and London Luton Airport. These services do not call at London Bridge in peak times and are not ideal if you have a lot of luggage. Other First Capital Connect services run every quarter of an hour to Brighton
Southern also run train to London Victoria* and London Bridge Their southbound services go to Brighton, Eastbourne, Portsmouth and Southampton.
First Great Western operate services to Paddington Guilford and Reading and onto the West of England
* The London underground services from Victoria include the Victoria Llne which covers Central London Euston and Kings Cross which operate suburban services to the North of London and intercity services to the midlands the north and Scotland. It also connects with the Eurostar to Europe at Kings Cross St Pancras International. From Victoria the Circle line east bound covers Central London and Liverpool Street which provides services to London Stansted Airport, east London, Essex and East Anglia. Westbound Circle Line trains go to Paddington which has services to Oxford, the West Country Devon and Cornwall.
Travel from London Gatwick Airport to London Heathrow Airport – Passengers can use the rail services to Victoria should take the Circle Line from Victoria and change on to the Piccadilly line at South Kensington. However as the entire journey between the two airports can take more than two hours the National Express Coach Services (see below) are a more practical option.
Travel from London Gatwick Airport to London City Airport – Passengers should travel on the mainline rail services to Victoria and then the Circle Line to Monument / Bank and then the Doclkands Light Railway.
Bus Services To & From London Gatwick Airport
There are five bus services serving the local areas around the operated by Metrobus.
Coach Services To & From London Gatwick Airport
easyBus is the principal coach service between Gatwick and central London with 15 minute services from outside both terminals at the airport. This services operates to West Brompton and Earls Court underground metro station and the District Line and Piccadilly Line. The Distirict line serves east west and central London. The Piccadilly Line serves Heathrow Airport, Central London, north and north west London. easyBus services cut out the ten minute walk with luggage from Victoria Coach Station to the underground at Victoria. which and West Brompton. The services booked in advance starts at £2 one way.
National Express Coach Services operate to and from 180 destination across Britain many with direct connections to Gatwick. They also provide a direct service between both terminals at Gatwick and Heathrow. At Gatwick’s North Terminal these services operate from the ‘lower level’ outside the ‘International Arrivals’.- the ticket office is in the ‘International Arrivals area’ At the Gatwick’s South Terminal the services operate from the ‘lower forecourt’ at stops 16 & 17.- the are ticket offices in the ‘Arrivals’ and the ‘Lower Forecourt’ areas.
Taxis From London Gatwick Airport
Taxis services at London Gatwick Airport are provided by Checker Cars who have booking offices in both terminals. The offices are in North Terminal ‘arrivals area ‘ and in the South Terminal ‘entrance’ building. Checker Cars will quote the fare in advance of your journey. Advance bookings can be made. Fares can be paid by cash or credit card. Checker Cars have some cars with swivel seats to assist disabled passengers.
Facilities At London Gatwick Airport
The facilities in London Gatwick Airport’s Terminal are extensive with numerous high street shops and restaurants plus a dozen or so currency exchange bureaus. Both terminals have ATM (cash machines) before and after you gone through security. Cash machines (ATM’s) are available in the terminal, both before and after security control. In general these machines will accept all UK bank and building society cards who are affiliated to the ‘Link Network’ without applying and surcharges as well as most major credit cards.
Wi-i and Internet desks are available in both terminals before and after you gone through security. These services can be bought online, by credit card or in cash using the euro or UK pound. Both terminals have family facilities including baby changing rooms. The South Terminal also has a family lounge area.

Car Parking At London Gatwick Airport
Car parking at London Gatwick Airport is available at both the North Terminal and the South Terminal. There are two types of parking – ‘short’ stay and ‘long’ stay. Both terminals at the short stay car parks offer a up to 15 minute stay for £1, 15 -30 minute stay for £2.50, and 30 minutes – 1 hour stay for £5 and for each subsequent hour entered there is an additional £3 per hour charge.
