London City Airport Location:

London City Airport is approximately 6 miles or 11 km from the City of London and approximately 9 miles from Central London and the West End. It is the closest airport to the centre of London and the only airport with a London postcode. It is on the east side of London and close to the main stadia or stadium for the 2012 Olympic Games.

The airport is Zone 3 of the London public transport system

Rail Services To & From London City Airport

Getting To & From London City Airport by Train: By Train The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) serves the airport and connect to the London Underground (metro) system at Bank Station. These service generally leave every 10 to 15 minutes. Bank station / Monument Station is served by the three underground lines: the northern line . central line and the District & Circle Line.

The Northern Line serves north and south London it all also serves the mainline rail stations Euston and Kings Cross* which operate suburban services to the North of London and intercity services to the midlands the north and Scotland. It also connects with the Eurostar to Europe at Kings Cross St Pancras International* Thames link services at Kings Cross serve London Luton Airport..

* Passengers with heavy luggage travelling to Kings Cross from Bank / Monument will find that the interchange at Kings Cross is easier on the Circle line.

The Circle Line line serves Kings Cross and St Pancras (see above) and the outer ring of central London. It also serves the mainline stations station at Liverpool Street, Paddington and Victoria. Services from Liverpool Street include London Stansted Airport, east London, Essex and East Anglia. Services from Paddington go to the West London suburbs, Oxford, The West Country Devon and Cornwall. Services from Victoria include London Gatwick Airport Kent Surrey and Southern England. Passengers for London Heathrow Airport should travel to South Kensington and change on to the Piccadilly Line.

The Central Line serves Liverpool Street (see above) east, west and central london. It can also be accessed via Stratford on the Docklands Light Railway. The interchange here is probably easier than at Bank / Monument especially with heavy luggage and at peak times.

An alternative to the above options is to take DLR to Cannng Town and then the Jubilee Line into Central London.

Bus Services To & From London City Airport

There are two bus services serving the airport: The 473 connects with London bound rail services including the Central Line (see above) at Stratford. It also serves North Woolwich & Sivertown. The 474 serves Canning town East Becton North Woolwich Silvertown. It is not a service that a visitor to Central London would find useful

Taxis To & From London City Airport

There is a taxis rank for licensed taxis at the Airport. Average prices from the airport to prime destinations should be as follows : The Excel Centre £10, The City of London £20, Covent Garden £25, Buckingham Palace, Oxford Street and the West End generally £30.

Facilities At London City Airport

A very clean airport with a good range of shops and very expensive restaurants. There are numerous ATM machines, several post boxes and three currency exchange bureaus. There are also two ‘internet’ stations – one opposite opposite WH Smith’s on the terminal’s concourse. – and the other in the Departure Lounge outside Presto. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the airport is available at a fixed rate. If your laptop is customised for wireless hi please call 0800 3876 7768 to arrange book your access.

London City Airport Special Needs Facilities

Toilets that are suitable for disabled customer are available on the main concourse, the Departure Lounge and also in the International Arrivals area. Lift access to the ‘Departures Level’ is available from the ground floor concourse. There is also lift access from the ‘Departure Pier’ to the apron at passenger boarding points .Additionally the airport has a ‘ Hearing point’. The airport has trained personnel ready to assist passengers if needed.

Car Parking At London City Airport

There are two car parks at London City Airport one for short stay up to 48 hours and one for longer stays up.The short stay car park is adjacent to the terminal and charges in 30 minutes sections for the first hour and then in two further sections for the following three hours. The main stay car park is a walk away from the terminal and has one charge for the first four hours.

The main stay car park is the cheaper of the two if you stay more four hours. Payment can be made by card provided you insert it into the ticket machine when you first arrive. Alternatively cash is accepted by the ticket machines but it may not be tendered at the exit barriers
