Weekend Gigs
DIRTY WATER & CORN ROCKET CLUB in HOLLOWAY on FRIDAY!
PETER DAVID & THE WILDE SECT
Their approach to music took after the hard-driving style of the barbed-wire* infused rhythm’n’blues and beat favoured by Danish kids in the mid-1960s, the more well known of them being the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, the Yardbirds, Bo Diddley, etc, but also the Downliners Sect, the Namelosers, Q65, Peter Belli & les Rivals, and so on. Their second vinyl single has recently been released by Dirty Water Records. (* Barbed-wire in Danish is “pigtråd”, which is 1960s Danish teen slang for noisy, raw, electric music.)
KING SALAMI & THE CUMBERLAND THREE
The King howls like Screaming Jay Hawkins with Bo Diddley chasing his coat-tail and with Andre Williams trying to offer up some of his bacon fat. This man never stops shakin’ and twistin’ and groovin’ while the Cumberland 3 (former members of the Ulcers, Chinese Lungs and Parkinsons) play their own branded mix of vintage rockabilly desperate rock’n'roll and a bit of soul with fire, energy, gusto and fun!
ATOMIC SUPLEX
Maximum Rock’n'Roll says: “Screaming, overdriven rock’n'roll compression at it’s best. Atomic Suplex are the British Guitar Wolf, the English Lightning Bolt or maybe the London New York Dolls.” Time Out, meanwhile, says: “This is probably what Bill Haley sounds like if you have the worst tinnitus in the world. Not so much a sonic cathedral as a sonic corrugated iron shed.”
DEATH VALLEY SURFERS
An entertaining mix of country, surf, 50s rock & roll and punk, their gigs are all about having a party with the audience. And that
sometimes means a beer drinking contest and tequila being handed out to the audience whilst they play “Tequila”, with silly dances being taught to the crazy folk down at the front. If you’re not smiling at the end of a DVS gig then there’s surely something wrong with you!
Plus Dirty Water & Corn Rocket DJs playing garage, beat, soul, rhythm’n’blues, and more from 7pm until late.

DIRTY WATER in BRIGHTON on SATURDAY!
Saturday 28 August
at Hector’s House, 52-54 Grand Parade, Brighton, BN2 9QA
PETER DAVID & THE WILDE SECT
Their approach to music took after the hard-driving style of the barbed-wired* infused rhythm’n’blues and beat favoured by Danish kids in the mid-1960s, the more well known of them being the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, the Yardbirds, Bo Diddley, etc, but also the Downliners Sect, the Namelosers, Q65, Peter Belli & les Rivals, and so on. THE VINYL STITCHES
Regulars in the audience at Dirty Water, these two chaps and two ladies play primitive rock’n’roll. This gang has fun on their minds, fuzz in their lustful hearts, and dark thoughts in their soul. They recreate that time when young Americans came out of their sleepy towns, high on illicit substances, and set about changing the world with a 4/4 beat. Employing a heady mix of The Stooges, Thirteenth Floor Elevators, and The Velvet Underground, they create an orgy of foot-stomping noise to soundtrack an imaginary psych exploitation movie.
Plus Dirty Water & Stay Sick DJs playing garage, beat, soul, rhythm’n’blues, and more from 8pm until late.

SINGLE OF THE WEEK
Batting 4th in our Single of the Week series is Spain’s Bambas with ” El Rock’n'Roll es una Mentira Querida”. Rock’n'roll, garage-land, delta blues, madness, Detroit in the 70′s, southern garage nowadays, stoner…these are what Bambas spits loud. All the instruments have been recorded by Bambas alone doin’ mysterious tricks that includes breathing over the tape, always using analog material and diy effects and guitars. You can learn more about Bambas on http://www.facebook.com/pages/BAMBAS/114165818622160 or buy the download on emusic, itunes and everywhere else.
The 3rd Single of the Week came from Vancouver, The Living Deadbeats. Tuneful Garage Punk, it’s part X, part Detroit Cobras (or come up with your own). You can hear more on http://www.myspace.com/thelivingdeadbeats.
The second Single of the Week brought you The Past Tense, a great new Garage\Powerpop/Psychedelic hybrid. You can learn more about them on http://www.myspace.com/thepasttenseband.
First up was The Snookys from Bergamo, Italy. A Rock’n’Roll influenced punk band, they sound somewhere in between the Ramones and Los Chicos….a great place to be! http://www.myspace.com/thesnookys
